Hem Acharya wrote an extensive list of “50 Common Interview Questions and Answers.” In most of the questions, Acharya suggests telling the truth. There are far too many to list here, but here are a few I found quite interesting:
- “Are you applying for other jobs?” - Acharya recommends telling the truth, but not dwelling too long on it. Keep the focus on the specific job and what you can do for the organization.
- “What kind of salary do you need?” – Acharya says this is a tricky question because you will likely say something wrong no matter what you say. Instead, turn it around and ask the manager what the salary range is for the position.
- “Tell me about your dream job.” – This one is tricky. If you say the job you are interviewing for, it may seem dishonest. However, listing another job may reflect badly. Instead, you may want to list general characteristics about the type of job/environment you love.
- “Tell me about the most fun you have had on the job.” – Talk about a time you accomplished something for an organization.
